Popularity of Chess

Though Chess has a history that has awakened interest at all times, very little is known about the game.  The game of Chess has a very long history spanning close to over 1500 years. Written rules of the game of chess, dating over a thousand years old have been evidenced. But the chess that we know today is quite different from what was earlier. It was the most admired game of Spain and treated to be the game of nobles and the learned.  The game of chess has at all times had the will and intent; it is a picture of war between two parties in a cultured fashion, and yet without any clemency.

The chessboard is perhaps the most ancient and the enduring feature of the game of chess.  It has sixty-four parts all accommodated in the small square of eight rows and eight columns.  The technical procedure of making a chessboard thus, is quite simple.  The board is facilitated by the use of colour; the squares are alternately coloured black and white.  A student of chess must know the board in its accuracy and should be able to visualize every square in its individual position and in relation to the neighbouring squares.  The four squares in the centre of the chessboard have the greatest significance.  A chess student must be able to designate the squares on a chessboard and visualize its position.  Many chess players fail to perform only because of their incapacity to master this task.  The combating armies on the board comprise of black and white pieces.
