“The Basics of Chess”

It is thought that Chess originated in India, many centuries ago, as early as 600AD, since the oldest traceable references date back to that time. Chess is a board game that is played between two players. It is more than just a skill game, it demands using intelligent strategy to win the game. The game needs a chequered board that has 64 squares and 2 sets armies, 1 white set and one black set, each made up of 16 pieces. Each player gets to control one army. The player with the white army starts the game; the players take turns moving one piece each turn. Each piece can be moved in a unique manner.
Understanding how the pieces can be moved is necessary when learning to play the game.  Most chess strategies have three phases: the opening, the middle and the end. These are known as the opening-game, the middle-game and the end-game.
In the opening, both parties develop their pieces and devise their plans. The middle is where the main battles are fought between the two armies and maximum pieces of the army are lost in this part of the game. The final phase, the endgame, is the most exciting. It is a tense battle between the few remaining pieces on the board. Throughout the game, each player has to ensure the King is safe and protected. Losing your king results in the game being over without more ado.
Chess is now played worldwide, with many champions playing chess tournaments. The FIDE organises championships for players all over the world. It defines the rules of the game that must be followed by the players and it defines the code of conduct of the players.
