Advanced Strategy in Chess

Chess is one of the most popular games that you can play indoors and a much coveted international sport. It is also considered to be one of the most mind stimulating games. A chess player may choose different strategies depending on what type of opponent he /she is playing. A strategy starts with the opening, continues through the middle game, and on to the end game. A theoretical opening may consist of complex moves such as the Queen’s Gambit, Sicilian, or French Defence. After the opening the main key is to focus on strategic elements like controlling files, pawn structure, and other long range development considerations. An important factor in the chess evaluation is the pawn structure, since pawns are the most immobile of the chess pieces, relatively static and largely determining the strategic nature of the position.

Some players might also here of tactical moves such as the King’s Gambit Accepted, Petroff’s Defence, or the Ruy Lopez. During the middle of the game, careful planning will help one to advance to the opponent’s side. The most basic chess strategy is to count the total value of pieces on both sides for evaluation of points.

The game is ended with the checkmate. A common strategy used here is overloading of pieces to attack the opponent’s key players. This is the most important part of the game as moves made for material gain can lead to defeat and sacrifices should be effectively planned. All above strategies underline one basic detail – winning skilfully in the minimum amount of moves.
